20 Sep 2018 No looking back for Bartrums’ early adoption of Pallet-Track network
Bartrums Road Services Ltd is a third generation family business with a payload to match its ambition as it approaches its 90th anniversary next year (2019).
A company that used to represent Boots’ dedicated distribution network across Norfolk and Suffolk arrived at a fork in the road in 2003 when it was approached by the embryonic Pallet-Track network to take on the massive East Anglian postcodes – NR, IP, CB – as well as CO & CM in Essex.
Founded in 1929 in Diss, Norfolk, the business employs 100 staff and represents a third of the employee base and turnover of the larger Bartrums Group.
Now based in its 100,000 sq ft hub in Eye, Suffolk, the business has its own eye on detail and customer service.
“I’ve always believed that service is all about quality – get that right and the volumes will follow,” said Robert Bartrum, one of the business’s joint managing directors.
“We recognised that Pallet-Track was a quality offering, even back then when they first came knocking on our door. We liked their ambition and what they said: ‘Pallet-Track was going to be the best.’ We had been looking at joining a network and the timing was right for us.
“We were told that we could have the area we wanted and although we have a smaller set of postcodes today because the network has grown, the quality remains the same.
“It was simply a different way of doing business. We liked the people at Pallet-Track from day one – it’s like being part of a family, and still is.
“Joining Pallet-Track was the business decision I have never regretted. In all the time we have been with them, only one member has chosen to leave and they have since asked to come back. It’s the best network to be part of – everyone knows where they stand.”
